Trifilar Helicoid Antenna
Overview
This trifilar helicoid antenna is designed to work in the VHF/UHF band. It consists of three thin steel wires interconnected with a mesh of bracing wires which maintain the correct cylindrical shape of the antenna. The antenna deployment is driven by the strain energy stored in the three helicoidal wires during stowage.
Moreover, this engineering model employs three deployment drive wires that ensure balanced and controlled deployment. In addition, a damper is integrated into the design to prevent end-of-run shock.
