Small Baffle for Optical Systems

Overview

This passive 4-section baffle is suitable for CubeSat applications. The deployment is driven by a set of two torsion springs working in parallel.


The first baffle section is fixed at the base whereas the following 3 sliding sections are displaced by the multiple engaging features between the moving elements.


The hold-down (HD) constraint relies on a perimetral wire hooking system which is severed by the thermal knife actuator.​

Application

  • Passive deployment with 2 torsion springs​

  • 4 segments, 1 fixed and 3 moving elements​

  • Deployment length ≈100 mm from aperture (adjustable, depends on requirements)​

  • Stowed height: ≈ 25 mm​

  • Saving Volume Ratio: 1:4 ​

  • Mass: ≈ 100 g​
