Deployable Optical Barrel

Overview

This optical barrel consists of 3 sections with 2 concentric moving elements onto which the secondary mirror of the telescope is attached.


An electric motor is employed at the base to uniformly slide each section to deployed configuration and to position the secondary mirror of the telescope correctly.


A precise and repeatable deployment is of paramount importance in this case to guarantee the alignment of the mirrors and properly focus the image of the optical instrument.

Application

  • Electric motor, passive CTS motorisation can be implemented

  • 3 segments, 1 fixed and 2 moving elements

  • Deployment length ≈300 mm from aperture (adjustable, depends on requirements)

  • Stowed height: ≈ 100 mm

  • Saving Volume Ratio: 1:3

  • Mass: ≈ 300 g
